GRB Observations with the MAGIC Telescopes
نویسنده
چکیده
MAGIC is currently the most suitable instrument to perform observations of the prompt and early afterglow emission from Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) at energies above 25 GeV. The instrument is designed to have the lowest possible energy threshold and fastest reaction time to GRB Coordinates Network (GCN) alerts. The MAGIC-I telescope started to follow-up GCN alerts in the beginning of 2005. Since then, more than 50 GRB candidates were observed. Just now MAGIC-II, the second telescope has started to operate. Both telescopes together will have a factor of three better sensitivity.

MAGIC observation of the GRB 080430 afterglow
Context. Gamma-ray bursts are cosmological sources emitting radiation from the gamma-rays to the radio band. Substantial observational efforts have been devoted to the study of gamma-ray bursts during the prompt phase, i.e. the initial burst of high-energy radiation, and during the longlasting afterglows. In spite of many successes in interpreting these phenomena, there are still several open k...
متن کاملEarly Optical Observations of Grbs by the Tarot Telescopes: Period 2001-2008
The TAROT telescopes (Télescopes à Action Rapide pour les Objets Transitoires) are two robotic observatories designed to observe the prompt optical emission counterpart and the early afterglow of gamma ray bursts (GRBs). We present data acquired between 2001 and 2008 and discuss the properties of the optical emission of GRBs, noting various interesting results. The optical emission observed dur...
متن کاملGRBs Optical follow - up observation at Lulin observatory , Taiwan ( ∗ )
— The Lulin GRB program, using the Lulin One-meter Telescope (LOT) in Taiwan started in July 2003. Its scientific aims are to discover optical counterparts of XRFs and short and long GRBs, then to quickly observe them in multiple bands. Thirteen follow-up observations were provided by LOT between July 2003 and Feb. 2005. One host galaxy was found at GRB 031203. Two optical afterglows were detec...
متن کاملUsing the photons from the Crab Nebula seen by GLAST to calibrate MAGIC and the Imaging Air Cherenkov Telescopes
In this article we discuss the possibility of using the observations by GLAST of standard gamma sources, as the Crab Nebula, to calibrate Imaging Air Cherenkov detectors, MAGIC in particular, and optimise their energy resolution. We show that at around 100 GeV the absolute energy calibration uncertainty of Cherenkov telescopes can be reduced to . 10% by means of such cross-calibration procedure.
متن کاملGRB 030329: 3 years of radio afterglow monitoring.
Radio observations of gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglows are essential for our understanding of the physics of relativistic blast waves, as they enable us to follow the evolution of GRB explosions much longer than the afterglows in any other wave band. We have performed a 3-year monitoring campaign of GRB 030329 with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescopes and the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescop...
